(CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA) – On Thursday, Jan. 27, the University of Virginia Center for Politics and the UVA Office of Global Affairs will host a virtual Ambassador Series event with His Excellency Juan Carlos Pinzón, Ambassador of Colombia to the United States.
Ambassador Pinzón’s speech, entitled the “200th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between Colombia and the U.S.,” will include milestones of the relationship, Colombia’s economic outlook and recovery, as well as other topics, such as migration, climate change, and the defense of democracy. He will also answer student questions. UVA Vice Provost for Global Affairs, Ambassador Stephen Mull, will introduce the Ambassador, and UVA Center for Politics Director of Global Initiatives Daman Irby will moderate the Q&A portion of the event.
This virtual event will be held from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27. Those who would like to attend can tune in at https://livestream.com/tavco/conversationwithambassadorofcolombia, and members of the media are welcome.
His Excellency Juan Carlos Pinzón was sworn in as Ambassador to the U.S. in July 2021 and previously served as Ambassador to the U.S. from 2015 to 2017. Prior to his service as Ambassador, he held the position of Minister of Defense, and he has served in a wide variety of roles in the Colombian government, in NGOs, and the private sector.
This Ambassador Series event is coordinated by the UVA Center for Politics’ Global Perspectives on Democracy (GPD) program, which fosters dialogue between the United States and other countries through public events and international exchanges. Pinzón is the 29th ambassador to participate in this series.
