Global Perspectives on Democracy
The Center for Politics at University of Virginia
Youth Ambassadors Program for Argentina and Chile 2015 – 2017
Hosted in partnership with World Learning and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Center for Politics is responsible for organizing and implementing the opening week of a three-week long high school student and educator exchange group from Argentina and Chile. While at the University of Virginia the participants receive a cultural introduction to the U.S., learn about the importance of civic engagement, begin the planning of civic action projects, visit local high schools, learn about volunteerism in the U.S. and participate in community service, visit cultural sites, and further develop their team building and leadership skills.
Following their week at the University of Virginia, the students participated in two-week homestays in Charlottes, Denver, Kansas City and Seattle. Upon the conclusion of the exchange, the students reunited in Washington, D.C. and then returned to their home countries where they implemented their projects and shared with others the importance of civic participation.
There will also be an American contingent traveling to Argentina and Chile in June 2015. Visit https://www.centerforpolitics.org/gpdusya2015.html to learn more about that exchange.
