Center for Politics Hosts Youth Ambassadors from Argentina and Chile

(CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA) – On Sunday, March 19, the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia kicked off the Youth Ambassadors Program with Argentina and Chile, which features 13 high-achieving youth leaders and two educators.

The exchange is operated by the Center’s Global Perspectives on Democracy Program in partnership with World Learning and sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. After arriving, the group will participate in a series of educational events and activities focusing on leadership development and civic engagement. Participants will lodge with area host families. Members of the media interested in the Youth Ambassadors exchange are welcome to attend any of the following events:

  • Thursday, March 23: Lecture on Youth Engagement and American Politics by Center for Politics Director Larry J. Sabato at 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at UVA’s Jefferson Hall (Hotel C).
  • Thursday, March 23: Visit to Charlottesville High School from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 23: Youth Civic Activism round robin with Charlottesville-area student leaders and Youth Ambassadors by the Ting Pavilion from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday, March 24: Service project at Habitat for Humanity Store from 10 a.m. until noon.
  • Tuesday, March 28: My Country, My Culture performance from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the intersection of E. Main St. and 3rd St. on the Downtown Mall
  • Other opportunities may be available upon request.

This will be the 34th exchange group to come to UVA as a part of the Center for Politics’ Global Perspectives on Democracy program. GPD fosters dialogue between the United States and other countries through public events and international exchanges.
